The Black Eagle ( Svarte Orna ) The Arran Viking Longship Society (AVLS) LongShip
The Black Eagle was made on Arran from a mould borrowed from Northern Ireland. Started by Nigel Wild in 1999 inspired by the Long ships from his native Peel in the Isle of Mann & Ardglas in Northern Ireland which came up to Arran in 1998 to take part in Corrie Capers see pictures. The tail and figure head were carved by local Sulptor Carver Marvin Elliott. The wooden seats, oars and mast were made by local craftsmen Mark Brown Luke Furze and Eddie O'Donnely. A special thanks to the late Frank Halliwell for all the work he did building the Longship She is still a work in progress.
In 2006 the Sail was rigged and the Arran Vikings sailed to Largs for Largs Viking Festival.
